Dear Bobcat,  

     Welcome to fourth grade! My name is Mrs. Matteo and I’m so excited to be your teacher! I hope your summer vacation has been filled with lots of fun. I can’t wait to hear about all of your adventures. Just because summer is winding down doesn’t mean your fun has to end. I have an exciting and busy year planned for us. It will be filled with many opportunities for learning, laughing, and making new memories. This year I will be teaching you Reading, Writing, and Social Studies. You will visit Ms. Weiss for Math and Science.   

     In Reading you will continue to increase your reading stamina, while practicing your comprehension skills, and exploring new vocabulary. During Writer’s Workshop, you will expand your thinking by adding more details, description, and complex sentences. I will help you work through the writing process to create pieces that you are proud to publish and share with others.

  Calling all Mathematicians! In Math, you will tackle challenging and complex problems. You will engage in “math talk” with partners to share your strategies and solutions. 

      In Science, you will learn all about energy, organisms and Earth materials. During investigations, you and your lab partners will question, observe, compare and record outcomes. In Social Studies, we will stay close to home and learn more about our great state of New Jersey. 

     I am truly excited to begin this new adventure with you! This year will be fantastic! Remember to stay positive, always believe in yourself, and keep smiling! I know we are going to make a great team!
